He was IARU Region 3 Chairman and President of the Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA), and he also served as IARU Vice President from 1989-1999. Sid T. May, ET3SID, Chairman of the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society (EARS), passed away on 25 September. An electrical engineer, Sid established the first Ethiopian radio club in 1993. The club station ET3AA was enjoyed by many different elementary schools before it was moved to its current location, the Institute of Technology at the Addis Ababa University. Sid taught Amateur Radio licensing classes in Ethiopia for more than 15 years. He administered RSGB and ARRL license exams sessions, and got more than 120 students pass the examination. Thirty-nine-year-old Maj. Goran Savic, YT2A (YZ1SG) lost his life on 26 September, when a Serbian military aircraft on a training flight crashed into a residential area northwest of Belgrade.
