[TNX The Daily DX] =========================== *** 4 2 5 D X N E W S *** **** GOOD TO KNOW ... **** =========================== Edited by I1JQJ & IK1ADH Direttore Responsabile I2VGW Thanks to Leonardo Lastrucci (IZ5FSA), the renovated website for 425 DX News is now up and running at the usual address: http://www.425dxn.org/. Responsive design and a new simplified interface are its main distinguishing features. Deliberately "no frills", its purpose is to preserve the memory of the world of DX as reported by 425DXN over the years, and to provide a depository of searchable information that can be easily navigated also by users with slow Internet connections. The weekly bulletins and the monthly magazines can be read online or downloaded for free, and the online enhanced version of the Calendar provides the relevant piece of information for each entry. Access to the main functions is also provided by the brand new 425DXN App for Android (soon also for iOS). Developed by Max Laconca (IK8LOV), it is available on Google Play - free of charge, no ads. Enjoy! CLUB LOG & LOTW ---> "Club Log has become the first logging service to achieve Trusted Partner status for Logbook of the World (LoTW)", ARRL and Club Log announced on 3 April. This means that "we can sign and upload QSOs, or download LoTW matches directly from server to server". A comprehensive guide ("How to use Club Log's LoTW tools") can be found here: http://clublog.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/3000003111 DXCC DELETION OF MIDWAY AND KURE ISLANDS ---> On 31 March the ARRL announced that "Midway and Kure Islands have been placed on the list of DXCC deleted entities, effective August 26, 2016". Midway Island (KH4) "had qualified for DXCC status by virtue of its being governed by a separate administration. Because it is now under the administration of Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, however, it becomes a deleted entity". Kure Island (KH7K), a part of Hawaii, "is separated from the rest of the state by Midway; because of that, it qualified for DXCC status under Section II, 2 (b) (iii) of the DXCC Rules - separation from its 'parent' Hawaii. Midway Island's change in DXCC status in turn made Kure Island no longer eligible for DXCC status, since Kure no longer is separated from the rest of Hawaii by intervening land or islands that are part of another DXCC entity". See www.arrl.org/news/midway-and-kure-islands-are-now-deleted-dxcc-entities. As a consequence of the deletion, the total number of Current Entities on the DXCC List has dropped from 339 to 337, and Honor Roll status will now be attainable after confirming 328 Entities on the List. DXCC members who have affirmed credit with Midway and/or Kure will see their current entity totals drop by two or one points on their DXCC awards. They will also see their DXCC Challenge totals drop commensurately. DXCC wise, contacts made with Midway and Kure after 25 August 2016 will count for Hawaii. R71RRC ---> The R71RRC team began operations from Arakamchechen Island (AS-071) [425DXN 1350] around 8.30 UTC on 6 April. They are currently located on the southern part of the island, while waiting for spare parts to fix their all-terrain vehicle. Hopefully they will be able to move to their planned location on the northern part of the island, which is far better in terms of open path over the North Pole. Their progress can be followed on http://www.r71rrc.ru/gps_tracking_ru, but instability in satellite communi- cation may cause delays. QSL via Club Log's OQRS, or via UA3AKO (direct or bureau). [TNX UA9OBA] VK9MAV ---> Cyclone Debbie caused havoc at Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Region of Queensland in late March. Andy, VK5MAV says that his VK9MAV's 15- 25 May IOTA expedition to Marion Reef (OC-257) [425DXN 1338] "hasn't been cancelled, just (possibly) postponed", as "people there have much more important things to worry about than someone's hobby". ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- QSLs received direct or through managers: 4I7COW, 4O/KC0W, 5A1AL, 5T5TI (AF- 050), 8R1AK, 9G5X, 9H3YY, 9X2AW, A73A, E2X (AS-125), E51ADD, E51AMF, EJ7NET (EU-121), HI1UD (NA-122), HR5/F2JD, J8/KI8IR, JT1CO, JY9FC, P4/JS3LSQ, RI0FS (AS-062), S01WS, SV8/IW2NEF, T88DT, TL8TT, TU5MH, TX5T, TZ4AM, V51WH, VK9VKL (OC-002), VR2XAN, XR5M (SA-061), XR7T (SA-043), YV2CAR/1 (SA-089), YV4KW/1 (SA-089), ZA/ZA1P, ZD8W, ZF2CJ. **************************************************************************** 425 DX NEWS HOME PAGE: http://www.425dxn.org 425 DX NEWS MAGAZINE: http://www.425dxn.org/monthly **************************************************************************** 425 DX News is a free of charge weekly bulletin edited by Mauro Pregliasco, I1JQJ and Valeria Pregliasco, IK1ADH Its contents may be used, reproduced and distributed in part or full provided that "425 DX News" or "425DXN" receive proper credit Contributors are invited to send their DX information to Mauro Pregliasco, I1JQJ (i1jqj.mauro@gmail.com) The deadline is 12 UTC on Fridays **************************************************************************** Direttore Responsabile Gabriele Villa, I2VGW Giornalista Professionista - Tessera n. 071675 Ordine Nazionale dei Giornalisti Roma, Italia
