VK9M - The VK9MT DXpedition to Mellish Reef [425DXN 1169] is now scheduled for 28 March to 9 April 2014. The sailing vessel "Evohe" has been chartered, and two operators (Heye, DJ9RR and Luigi, IV3YER) have been added to the on-island team. They will be QRV as Z81X with an emphasis on 160 and 80 metres. The plan is to activate three stations with amplifiers, low-band verticals and beverage antennas. The operation will be generator based, and two different radio locations may be used. The period includes the CQ WW DX CW Contest, with some single-band entries and low-band SSB focus during the contest weekend. The highest cost item is equipment transport, with courier service the only reliable means of transportation. These "materials will all come together in January when the Braveheart and the FT5ZM team arrive in Fremantle, Australia". "We are in the phase of the DXpedition where large expenses are coming at us rapidly. We are staying within our budgeted expenses, but contributions have been somewhat less than we had hoped. It now appears almost certain that the team members will have to increase their personal contribution from $10,000 per person to $12,500 per person as well as pay their own way to and from Fremantle. [TNX NC1L] K9W ---> The K9W DXpedition to Wake Island has been on hold since 1 October [425DXN 1170]. On 22 October the Management team announced that they continue "to work with the USAF to set rescheduled dates for this Commemorative DXpedition. Once we have the new dates, we will post them on www.wake2013.org and through the normal Amateur Radio communication media. Thank you for your patience and understanding".
